Mandorle

Live audiovisual and installation. Supported by Crossedlab ‘Mandorle’ is a protean work. It combines live projection and installation mapping. ‘Mandorle’ explores the bodily landscapes of femininity in the broadest sense and develops a bio-morphic visual language exploring the relationship between the body, the self, sexuality and space. They oscillate between abstraction, supernatural and corporeal figuration, with the use of curves and materials recalling the original matrix. The visuals have a mystical symbolism, and the name of the work ‘Mandorle’ evokes the religious form in which sacred figures are inscribed. They explore the link between colour, depth and dimensionality. Pia Vidal explores the notion of inhabiting the body, and her compositions, which are often symmetrical, establish a singular central axis that links the visual to her own body and to the natural world.
